1980 Jeep Cherokee 4WD Laredo 2-Door
Ford’s first-generation off-roader has gone from cult classic to mainstream collector.
The Dodge Li'l Red Express set a standard on how to make a great performance truck. All Dodge Li'l Red Express trucks came from the factory painted in Bright Canyon Red in 1978 and Medium Canyon Red in 1979. Every Li'l Red Express was a regular cab Adventurer with a stepside bed.
Classic Car Overview
The body was refinished in Bordeaux Metallic in 2020, and the seller states that the left-front fender was replaced by a previous owner. Work in 2020 also included replacement Laredo stripes, perimeter door seals, and seals for the optional removable tinted-glass sunroof.
Replacement factory-style 15 chrome wheels were sourced and installed by the seller along with 31×10.5 GT Radial Adventuro A/T tires. The truck is fitted with power steering and power front disc brakes, and service performed since the sellers purchase reportedly includes a replacement steering damper, power steering hoses, and shocks.
The interior features power-adjustable bucket seats with striped Country Weave cloth inserts, black door panels, and a black dash. The black vinyl outer sections of the seats, the headliner, and the black carpets were replaced during current ownership, and amenities include air conditioning, intermittent wipers, power locks, cruise control, power windows, a digital clock, and an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo.
Factory instrumentation consists of an 85-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles and is believed by the seller to have rolled over. The seller has added approximately 100 miles in one year. True mileage is unknown.
The 360ci V8 was factory rated at 195 horsepower. Service performed during current ownership is said to have included a replacement distributor cap and rotor, starter relay, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, spark plugs, plug wires, belts, and fuel and air filters. The seller states that the carburetor was rebuilt, the radiator reconditioned, the radiator hoses replaced, and the air-conditioning system recharged with R-12 refrigerant.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a QuadraTrac four-wheel-drive system. The seller states that he changed the fluid for the front and rear differentials, replaced the transmission filter, and replaced the rear tailpipes. An auxiliary fuel tank is fitted, as is an electric fuel tank transfer switch below the dash.
