1978-1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express

The Dodge Li'l Red Express set a standard on how to make a great performance truck. All Dodge Li'l Red Express trucks came from the factory painted in Bright Canyon Red in 1978 and Medium Canyon Red in 1979. Every Li'l Red Express was a regular cab Adventurer with a stepside bed.

Classic Car Overview

Up for sale is a 1946 Ford Tonner flat bed. With a high payload capacity you're able to haul any heavy load you may encounter, from a load of hay or even your wife. The Timken Banjo 6.67:1 differential will push you right along, it won't be playing much of a tune nor will you find a radio but the 4 speed transmission spur cut gears will surely be. Double clutch and pull her into another gear to change the tune, with a constant base of the freshly turned up flat head V8 pulling you right along. The mechanical tunes may not be loud as they once were from the factory with the new firewall pad and little extra firewall and floor insulation. All fresh fluids, grease, and wheel seals will keep everything working smooth and as good as new. With six new tires with the traction to make across the muddy field and up into the hills. The coolant temperature will stay in check up the steepest hills with new hoses, belts, fan hub, and coolant. As you bounce through the potholes the windows will surely not rattle with new anti-rattle strips. You load up some firewood, careful not to hit the back window again. Getting turned around, watch out for that stump, don't want to bend the mud flap bracket again. With one mirror you don't see it and rip off the license plate but there will be some bailing wire in the tool box under the duct tape. Heading down the hill, with the new brakes and lines you'll feel perfectly safe down the hills with that heavy load of wood. After the firewood is unloaded, pull the truck into the barn for the night where it's been kept since it was new. You may give it a quick carburetor adjustment but no points adjustment will be needed with the solid state ignition.

On those cold winter days, slide into the cab onto the new seat. Pull the choke and the engine fires right up, fire up the gas fed Stewart Warner Heater. It will warm you right up as you make it into town. A little rain no problem, dual vacuum wipers and new blades will take care of that. Heavy rain and a steep hill you'll figure it out. After you get loaded up with supplies you realize your new battery is dead because you left the lights on, that all in working order. But don't be worried, grab the hand crank out of the tool box and give the engine a quick crank and it fires right up! The refurbished generator and new voltage regulator charges the battery right back up. Stop for some fuel and top off the freshly lined fuel tank, check the oil and you'll see it's full and has not been using any. You got a bottle of whiskey between your legs but don't crack it yet. The last telephone pole did minimal damage to the upper driver side of the cab and may not get so lucky again. These old trucks are nicknamed jail bars but you don't want to end up in jail. Use the working turn signals to turn back out onto the highway. Slow and steady as you hit top speed (49mph) the wind noise will be minimal with the new canvas door seals.

The paint and body is in amazing shape with every bump and bruise with a story to tell. The only bit of rust is the little bit under the battery tray from an old battery that leaked. This is a very reliable truck ready to go back to work where it left off over 60 years ago. Truck is all original except for normal maintenance and a few comfort items.

Straw hat included, you provide your own overalls. You may also want a paper road map just in case you get lost, no way to charge your phone in this old Ford.
This old Ford will take you back in time with many stories to tell, make it yours today and continue making memories.
